Cultural Etiquette

Mongolia's culture is rich and welcoming. When entering a ger, always move clockwise and avoid stepping on the threshold. Hospitality is of utmost importance; accept offerings of food and drink graciously.

Currency and Payments

The Mongolian Tugrik (MNT) is the local currency. Ulaanbaatar offers ATMs and currency exchange options, but rural areas largely operate on cash transactions. It's advisable to carry sufficient cash when traveling outside the capital.

Language and Communication

The official language is Mongolian, with English and Russian also spoken in urban areas. Learning a few basic phrases in Mongolian can be a gesture of goodwill and is often appreciated by locals.

Transportation Tips

Traveling in Mongolia can be an adventure in itself. Domestic flights and long-distance buses are common for intercity travel. In the cities, taxis are available, but it's best to agree on a fare before starting your journey.
